Prairie Moon Studio

One day I woke up and decided to devote all of my time to something I truly love and so I became  - a full time Textile Artist.  Then the dream expanded at lightning speed.  To be sure my art would be based on the fiber from my Alpaca herd; I set a goal to use fiber that has that special Alpaca handle but normally is combined with other fiber or is processed into lower quality products.  I needed to look no further than my 2011 clip to discover my target fiber.  We have a large number of girls in our herd and they work really hard at the baby making production side of the farm - and as with most of those heavy producing girls, their fiber is still soft and luxurious but a little on the short side.  The next major inspiration  was the first time I used a dry needle felting machine to turn Alpaca batts into non-woven fabric. BINGO, I discovered my calling.  I would turn fine, lovely handle, short staple length Alpaca fiber into wearable art that when worn will turn heads and stop traffic.

So .... I bought a dry needle felting machine, built a studio, skirted a ton of fleeces, hand painted yards of silk in fabulous designs and colors, cranked up the machine and created the most marvelous little luxuries from Alpaca.  And I am living the dream every day in my lovely, inspirational studio with views that look up Buckhorn Canyon and the Alpaca grazing in the pastures.

My wearable art includes vests, jackets and shawls that are both durable and unique.  Alpaca should be worn next to your skin to appreciate the qualities that make Alpaca special - fineness and handle.  The Studio is open by appointment and includes my wearable art on display for sale as well as other original handmade Alpaca products and yarn and rovings for sale.

A special heartfelt thank you to the friends who have supported and encouraged me along the way to my becoming a Textile Artist.
